    Quick Answer

Does an RV title transfer work like a car title in Ohio?

A motorized RV, yes — same BMV process and notarized seller signature. A towable camper with no engine follows trailer titling rules instead.

Which rules apply to your camper depends on whether it drives itself. A motorhome has its own engine and titles through the Ohio BMV the same way a car does. A towable travel trailer or fifth wheel has no engine of its own and follows the trailer titling rules instead — see our trailer title guide for that process.

    Motorhomes (Class A, B, and C)

A motorized RV is titled exactly like a car: the seller completes the Assignment of Ownership on the back of the title — buyer information, sale price, date, odometer reading — and signs in front of the notary, not before. We verify identity and witness the signature, and the buyer takes the notarized title to the BMV within thirty days to pay tax and title fees.

    Towable campers and travel trailers

These follow the same process as utility trailers, including the question of whether a title is required at all depending on weight — worth confirming with the BMV or your title office before the appointment if you are not sure.

A few RV-specific things to check

    — Older motorhomes sometimes have title issues similar to older cars — faded ink, illegible VINs, or liens that were never released. Worth checking the title before scheduling. — If the sale includes separate titled items — a tow dolly, a trailer, a boat — each may need its own notarized transfer.

Tell us what is included so we can plan for all of it in one appointment. — Lien releases are required the same as any vehicle if the title shows a lender.

    What to bring
