If you're selling or transferring a vehicle in the Cincinnati or Dayton area and need the title signed in front of a notary, Signed On Time travels to your home, office, or wherever works to notarize the seller's signature. Terry May, the owner and an Ohio Notary Public, serves six Southwest Ohio counties and books same-day appointments when the schedule allows. Call (513) 226-9052 or book online to set a time.

Who comes to my home to notarize a car title near Cincinnati or Dayton?

Signed On Time is a mobile notary and loan signing service based in Waynesville, Ohio that comes to you for car title transfers. I am Terry May, commissioned as an Ohio Notary Public on July 28, 2017, with more than nine years as a commissioned notary and 25-plus years in commercial and residential lending. I carry a $2 million errors and omissions policy, complete a yearly background screening, and am NNA Certified. Signed On Time is veteran-owned.

Mobile service means I travel to the signer rather than asking you to find an open counter. For a title transfer, that usually means meeting the seller at home, at work, or at another agreed spot in the six counties I cover. I verify the seller's identity, witness the signature as an impartial witness, complete the notarial act, and keep the required record.

What happens when Signed On Time notarizes a car title?

I notarize the seller's signature on the title. In Ohio, the seller signs the assignment of ownership on the title in front of a notary, and that signature has to be notarized before the buyer can complete the transfer at the county title office. You can read the state's own rules on the Ohio BMV titles page.

A few points decide whether the appointment goes smoothly:

    • The seller must be present in person with a current government-issued photo ID, and the name on the ID needs to match the name on the title.
    • The title must be complete before the seller signs, which means the buyer's name and address are already filled in. If the buyer is not at the appointment, the seller gets that information beforehand.
    • The seller signs only in front of me. A title that is already signed cannot be notarized, so leave the signature line blank until we meet.
    • The buyer does not need to be present for the notarization.

A bill of sale is a separate document. Ohio does not require one for a typical sale, but it records the price and odometer reading and protects both sides. I can notarize the seller's signature on a bill of sale even when the buyer is not there, as long as the seller appears in person.

After I notarize the signature, I do none of the filing. The buyer takes the title to the County Clerk of Courts Title Office within 30 days of the sale, pays the sales tax and title fee, then registers the vehicle with the BMV. Missing that 30-day window can mean a late fee. My role ends at the notarial act. The county title office and the BMV handle the transfer itself. For the full step-by-step, our vehicle title notary page and the title transfer checklist walk through what to prepare.

What should I have ready before the appointment?

Have the title and the seller's photo ID in hand, with the buyer's information already entered. A short list to gather:

    • The original title, with the buyer's name and address filled in but the seller's signature line still blank
    • The seller's current government-issued photo ID, name matching the title
    • A written lien release if a lender ever held the title
    • The agreed sale price and the current odometer reading and date

If the vehicle is a boat, a motorcycle, or an off-road machine, the titling path differs. Cars, trucks, and motorcycles title through the Ohio BMV and the county title office; boats and watercraft go through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft; ATVs and UTVs follow a separate ODNR process. When your situation is less common, such as a gift to a family member, a lost title, or a title where the owner has died, call (513) 226-9052 with the title in front of you and I will tell you what I can notarize and who handles the rest.

What does a mobile car title notarization cost?

Ohio law sets the notarial fee at up to $5 per notarial act, and that limit is per act, not per signature. On top of that, a travel fee applies to every mobile appointment and is quoted before you book. I do not post a flat total because the number depends on the appointment itself.

    Fee componentHow it works
Ohio notarial feeUp to $5 per notarial act, set by state law, not charged per signature
Travel feeApplies to every mobile appointment, agreed before the notarial act as Ohio law requires
TotalConfirmed before your appointment; depends on service, location, travel, timing, urgency, and assignment details

You get the full total before anything is signed, so there is no guesswork when I arrive. Payment is accepted by cash, Venmo, or Zelle. For a firm number, call (513) 226-9052 or use the booking page.

Where does Signed On Time travel?

Signed On Time covers Hamilton, Warren, Montgomery, Butler, Greene, and Clinton counties in Southwest Ohio, the stretch between Cincinnati and Dayton, working out of Waynesville, Ohio 45068. Many of these communities are rural, and it can be hard to find a notary who will drive out to them. We have lived, worked, and shopped in this area for 32 years.

Regular hours are 7 AM to 10 PM, seven days a week, including evenings and weekends. Same-day appointments are available, subject to the current schedule, travel distance, timing, and urgency. Need something outside those hours? Call (513) 226-9052 and I will accommodate the request whenever I can. You can see the full list of towns on our service areas page.

    How do I book?

Call or text (513) 226-9052, or book online at signedontime.com/book-now. Tell me where the seller is, what the vehicle is, and when you need it done, and I will confirm a time and a total before we meet.

    Frequently asked questions

Does the buyer need to be at the car title signing?

No. Only the seller signs the title in front of me, so only the seller needs to be present with a matching photo ID. If the buyer cannot attend, the seller gathers the buyer's name and address ahead of time and enters that on the title before signing. I can also notarize the seller's signature on a separate bill of sale without the buyer there.

Can you notarize a title I already signed?

No. The seller has to sign the title in front of the notary, so a signature that is already on the title cannot be notarized. Leave the seller's signature line blank until the appointment. If a title was signed early, the county title office or BMV can tell you the correction process.

What ID do I need for a title transfer?

Bring a current government-issued photo ID, and the name on it must match the name on the title. If your only ID is expired, out of state, damaged, or shows a different name, call (513) 226-9052 before booking so we can sort it out first. I verify identity at the appointment and perform the notarial act only when the legal requirements are met.

How fast can you come out for a title in the Cincinnati or Dayton area?

Same-day appointments are available, subject to the current schedule, your location, travel distance, and timing. I work 7 AM to 10 PM, seven days a week, and will take outside-hours requests when I can. Call (513) 226-9052 and I will tell you the soonest I can reach you and confirm the total before I head out.

What do you not handle on a title transfer?

I notarize the seller's signature and keep the required record. I do not file the title, choose the document, give legal advice, or decide whether the transfer is valid. After the notarization, the buyer files at the County Clerk of Courts Title Office within 30 days and registers with the BMV. For a sale involving a deceased owner, probate, or a dealer, an attorney, the probate court, or the BMV can advise on the paperwork.

    Before We Arrive

Have the unsigned title and a valid photo ID ready. If buyer and seller cannot meet at the same time, let us know — we handle separate signings the same day.
